Cafe Lex Amourex is the only non-Asian restaurant at Market Square. Being a frequent food hunter at Market Square, it is strange that I never considered going to Cafe Lex Amourex.
I changed my mind when I recently had to organise a get together a.k.a. reunion for a group of friends with a couple of kids. We wanted to go somewhere local, kid-friendly, that can accommodate a big group and not too noisy. I decided to be brave and picked this new venue. It turned out that everyone in the group were in the same boat as me – all frequent diners at Market Square who’d never visited Cafe Lex Amourex.
The staff were friendly and accommodating to our group. We had a few dropouts as it appeared that it was a bad night for the kids and the two families with kids could not stay. The staff did not make any fuss at all about that even offered to reorganise our table for a more comfortable seating (in other words, free up a table for the more customers).
Only one of friends ordered an entree so it did take a while for food to arrive, but we didn’t mind as we were too busy chatting with each other. Everyone’s mains were served at the same time, so there were no awkward moments waiting for each other.
The favourite of the night was the Lamb Shank. It came with a generous serving of mashed potatoes, beans and carrots. Three of my friends ordered that and all loved it. According to them, the meat was very tender and tasty.
I had the eye fillet with green peppercorn sauce and French fries which I really enjoyed. The steak was tender and cooked to my liking (medium).
D had confit duck leg served with garden salad, braised cabbage and french fries. According to him the duck was beautifully cooked and very tasty.
We were also pleasantly surprised with the price – most mains are less than $30 with many options under $20 as well. Everyone in the group unanimously agreed that the food was great and that we would come back again.
