Lesson 4 ~ Cake Designs and Fondant

We are now officially halfway through the class and it is time to start thinking of our final cake design. At the end of this six-week course, we will take home our own fully decorated single tier cake. It is quite a big deal for all of us to create our own ‘perfect’ masterpiece.

I have been going through pictures on Pinterest, looking for inspirations. For some reason, I can’t seem to take my eyes off Cotton & Crumbs designs.

This week, we practiced covering an entire cake with fondant. It sounded simple, looked simple, so how hard can it be? Well, a lot can go wrong. Firstly, if the fondant is too thin, it might tear and you will end up covering the cake with holes. On the other hand, if it is too thick, it will be harder to work with and it will end up cracking. It does require a lot of practice to get it perfectly smooth.

I am quite happy with the result of my first trial.

I even had the chance to play with a stamped pattern.

Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for the masterpiece! (fingers crossed it’ll turn out well)
